khumar in that context means “intoxicated with love” (which I didn’t know until I just looked it up in my handy Oxford Hindi/English Dictionary ). The line means, “Ever since my heart has found love, I haven’t found any rest or peace. How could I sleep, my eyes are intoxicated with love…”
This is a line from a beeeautiful song I am addicted to recently remixed by Partners in Rhyme called “Rabba Mein Kya Karoon.” If you would like a copy of this song, contact me
Please correct me, I know there are many spelling errors!
Rough transliteration of Hindi:
barse rangeeni, kaliyan hai mekha bhin bheeni
baje man mein halke halke shehnai re
jitne hai taare, aanchal mein aa gaye saare,
dil mein jaise hili aangdayi re
chanda mere chanda, tujhe kaise mein yeh samjayun?
mujhe lagti hai tu kitni pyari re…
khushinya jitni hai, sab dhund dhund ke laoon
teri doli ke sang kar dun saari re
This what Hariharan says before he starts singing the lyrics of a fantastic ghazal named “Beeti Batein.” I’m positive there are many spelling errors here. I would be thankful if you could correct. Some words that are possibly wrong are:
yaadein, zindagi, aayiye
Once in a while now, I’ll try to write a post in Hindi, just for own practice. You’ll have to be nice to me, because I cannot spell well at ALL and my grammar may be weird at times too
